Guidelines

This isn’t a manifesto. It’s just a list of things that, when done properly, result in a website which is fast, easy to use, and won’t fall apart under pressure.

Build for everyone

Your site should work with screen readers, low-end phones, and spotty café Wi-Fi. If it doesn’t, it’s not done.

Get to the point

Tell users where they are, what matters, and what to do next. Plain language is not a downgrade.

Show what matters

If everything shouts, nothing is heard. Design content to be scanned at a glance — not decoded like a novel.

Do what’s expected

Respect the user’s expectations. Follow web conventions so users know what to do without stopping to think.

Let people choose

Good websites stay out of the way. Let users interact on their own terms, with the freedom to navigate, adjust, and control their experience.

Keep it simple

Fewer moving parts means fewer things breaking, distracting, or confusing the user. Keep things as simple as possible, but no simpler.
